New Presidency for the Roman-Catholic Soldiers Association of Austria (AKS)

The Military Commander of the district of SALZBURG was elected as the new President of the Roman-Catholic Soldiers Association of Austria (AKS).

From 08 – 12 April 2024 the spring meeting of the AKS took place at the seminar hotel “Der Trattner” in Semriach/Styria and the new presidency was elected at the beginning.

His Excellency Dr Werner FREISTETTER, the Military Bishop of Austria, also attended the conference and provided information on topics of the military diocese that are close to his heart and was available on Tuesday afternoon to answer questions from the AKS delegates during the military bishop’s hour. The liturgical highlight was the Holy Mass celebrated by the Military Bishop. His Excellency also took the opportunity to thank the outgoing AKS President BG Martin JAWUREK, Colonel Fritz AFLENZER and Warrant Officer Josef GFÖLLER for their many years of tireless commitment and to wish the new AKS Presidium with the newly elected President BG General Peter SCHINNERL and his Vice Presidents Lieutenant Colonel Martin WEIß and Sergeant Major Gerald HOFER all the best and God’s blessing for the next 5 years of their term of office.

The AKS is delighted that the Military Commander of the district of SALZUBRG, BG Peter SCHINNERL, a committed Catholic and extremely competent general staff officer, has agreed to take on the responsible role of President of the AKS.

The outgoing members of the Presidium received a special honour: BG Martin JAWUREK was appointed as AKS Honorary President, Colonel Friedrich AFLENZER, MA MSc, Colonel Michael JEDLIČKA, Warrant Officer Josef GFÖLLER and Warrant Officer Rudolf HAMMER were appointed as Honorary Members of the AKS Presidium.
