JULY 2012 – INFORMAL MEETING AT THE THERESIAN MILITARY ACADEMY

At the end of July the acting AMI-President General Major Norbert Sinn invited the AMI Secretary General Nelleke Swinkels- van de Vorst and the 1. AMI Vice President Colonel Michael Jedlička to an informal meeting to talk about the latest state of the preparations for the AMI General Assembly in Belgium. The meeting took place at his office in the Theresian Military Academy- an educational institution, where the Austrian Armed Forces train their officers. The Academy is located in the castle of Wiener Neustadt in Lower Austria.The Theresian Military Academy (TherMilAk) is the oldest military academy in the world and was founded on 14. December 1751 by Maria Theresa of Austria. The current commander of the TherMilAk is our AMI President Generalmajor Norbert Sinn. The TherMilAk is a 3-year college which can also be attended by civilian students, graduating with a bachelor’s degree.

JUNE 2012 – NEIL GALLOWAY was ORDAINED DEACON

Our AMI Friend from the United Kingdom Neil Galloway was ordained deacon at the end of June 2012.
Congratulations Neil on behalf of the whole « AMI- Family »! We wish you all the best and a lot of fun and success for your pastoral work.

10.-14. MAI 2012 – 54th ANNUAL MILITARY PILGRIMAGE to LOURDES/FRANCE

The International Military Pilgrimage (IMP) started in 1958 when the French Armed Forces invited the German military to join them in Lourdes as a gesture of post-war reconciliation. Since then the pilgrimage has grown and and this year the military pilgrims were represented by some 34 different countries making up over 20,000.

The Military Pilgrimage to Lourdes has developed as an annual meeting place for the « AMI-FAMILY ». It was great to be part of the camaraderie shared between all the nations and the friends of AMI. The AMI Executive Council was represented by our new President Major General Sinn, by our 2. AMI Vice President Staff Master Sergeant Markus Stromberger, by our Secretary General Nelleke Swinkels – van de Vorst and by our Ecclesiastical Assistant Bishops Vicar Mons. Dr. Werner Freistetter.

APRIL 2012 – ROYAL HONORARY MEDAL

Our Secratry General Nelleke Swinkels – van de Vorst and her husband Maarten received a « Royal Honorary Medal » for all the social work they have been doing voluntarily over the past years. They contributed both at a local, national and international level. On the 27. April 2012 they were knighted in the Order of Oranje Nassau. This is an award granted by the Dutch Queen. The Order is a chivalry order open to « everyone who have earned special merits for society ». These are people who deserve appreciation and recognition from society for the special way in which they have carried out their activities.

The mayor of Nellekes home town Best surprised Nelleke and Maarten at home- he awarded the medal in the name of the Dutch Queen.

MARCH 2012 – VISIT to the VATICAN

At the beginning of March 2012 the new AMI Executive Council paid its first official visit to the Vatican.
There were talks:

  • at the State Secretariat with Monsignor Dr. Peter Wells as Assessor for the Secretariat of State’s Section for General Affairs and with Dotoressa Fermina Alvarez Alonso

  • and at the Pontifical Council for the Laity with Undersecretary Monsignor Dr. Miguel Delgado.

As part of the fruitful talks on current issues and projects there was also time for the adoption of the outgoing AMI- President Brigadier General Reinhard Kloss and for the introduction of the new AMI-President Major General Norbert Sinn. Moreover, the new AMI Executive Council used time for intensive talks on the preparation of the next AMI General Assembly in Belgium.

 

JANUARY 2012 – The WORKING PERIOD of the new AMI-PRESIDENCY TEAM started at 01. JANUARY 2012

Because of the end of the election period of the AMI Presidency and the AMI Secretary General in December 2011 the AMI-Presidency and AMI-Secretariat General was elected at the end of the AMI General Assembly in MANILA.

– Austria – with the agreement of the Military Bishop – applied for the AMI Presidency 2012 – 2014. Candidate was MajorGeneral Mag. Norbert SINN.
– The Netherlands – with the agreement of the Military Bishop – applied for the second time for the AMI Secretariat General . Candidate was Mrs. Nelleke SWINKELS van de Vorst

Results: Austria was elected unanimously by open ballot for the AMI Presidency and the Netherlands were elected unanimously by open ballot for the AMI Secretariat General.
